GENERAL OVERVIEW:

Since 1878, the year in which Christian Brothers’ College St Kilda (CBC) St Kilda was founded by the Christian Brothers, the College has taught generations of inner-city Melbourne boys. Our 130 years of service as a Catholic secondary school have given us a special sense of purpose and a respected and meaningful place in the Melbourne community. At CBC St Kilda, we see it as our duty as educators to be aware of current research and of key research findings in the field of secondary education. We carefully assess these findings in the context of what we know, from our own experience and what works best for the boys at CBC St Kilda. In this way we are able to offer our students the very best learning options available, without losing sight of our traditional values. Our mandate is to educate the whole person. Every boy is much more than just a student. He is also a spiritual person, an emotional person, a recreational and a social person. Our aim as a school is to provide learning opportunities that will foster balanced development of the whole person. Therefore our programs need to be wide and deep, and flexible enough, to make it possible for every boy at CBC St Kilda to discover who he is becoming and where his capabilities lie. A CBC education goes beyond the academic. We foster a sense of belonging and actively promote hope, curiosity, creativity and courage in all that we do. Our boys can fully embrace the world and the opportunites that come their way.

LOCATION:

CBC St Kilda is located 15 minutes drive from the heart of the city. The College is easily accessible by all forms of transport, and is located close to major public transport routes for train, tram and bus. Set in Melbourne's inner-city, it borders a vibrant shopping district which provides a safe and busy community on it's door-step.

DISTINCTIVE CHARACTERISTICS:

CBC St Kilda is distinguished by its long and successful history in the education of boys. Drawing on this strong tradition the College today is a vibrant learning community known for its exceptional pastoral care programs, the breadth and depth of its curriculum offerings and the very real atmosphere of family which is enjoyed by its students. The students of the College come from a wide range of cultural backgrounds and mix well together to produce a safe and secure environment for all our young men.

Complementing the extensive academic programs offered the College has comprehensive offerings in applied and technical learning. These options are provided through strong ties with external providers and result in opportunities for boys to engage in studies which are vocationally based and often conducted in real world contexts. Students at CBC St Kilda find themselves in a variety of post school programs across the full range of tertiary institutions. Each year the overwhelming majority of our students accept positions to pursue their studies at universities such as the University of Melbourne, Monash University, Latrobe University as well as other tertiary providers. In the recent past students from the College have taken up studies at the Australian National University and other interstate universities.

CBC St Kilda is proud to be a contemporary and innovative college which excels in the education of young men.
