GENERAL OVERVIEW:
Founded in 1920, Stuartholme School, anchored in tradition, dynamic in nature and relevant in outcomes, is a Catholic School dedicated to the philosophy and traditions of the Sacred Heart tradition, a community in which the spirit of discovery is encouraged through the combined contributions of everyone in the community.
Today, this day and boarding secondary school of approximately 700 students is one of more than 150 schools worldwide that share a common origin and five educational goals.
These Goals of Sacred Heart Education challenge our girls to be women of faith, integrity, wisdom, spirit, compassion and justice. Stuartholme is proud to see in these young women what the old school rule called “a fidelity to duty and to joy” – a balanced character, a strong mind, a loving heart and an enthusiasm for life.
LOCATION:
Stuartholme School is 6km from the Brisbane CBD. Located on the foothills of Mt Coot-tha above the Botanical Gardens, the school buildings command easterly views over the city and Moreton Bay’s beautiful islands.
The grounds cover over forty acres, incorporate landscaped gardens, nature trails, sports oval, tennis and netball courts, a 25m swimming pool and delightful summerhouse, providing means for both healthy activity and quiet reflection.
DISTINCTIVE CHARACTERISTICS:
Stuartholme presents a holistic approach to education, characterised by a comprehensive curriculum designed to meet the learning needs of a diverse student population together with a rich and vibrant co-curricular programme.
With the strong focus on academic success, Stuartholme also offers diversity in the cultural life of the school as it is a rich tapestry of interwoven festivals, celebrations, concerts, tours and exhibitions.
BOARDING AT STUARTHOLME
The Stuartholme Boarding Community is central to the mission of Stuartholme School. Currently, there are 145 boarders from diverse localities and cultures. Life as a Boarder is a busy one – always on the “move”! The daily routine and the myriad of co-curricular and recreational activities provide a breadth of opportunities for each Boarder to grow to her full potential.
In the development of each boarding student, leadership and personal development are given importance. Senior Boarders give enthusiastic, creative and conscientious leadership to a Representative Council comprising two representatives from each Year Level. This Council provides a forum to listen to the needs of the Boarders, and is responsible for initiatives which build strong community spirit.
Senior leaders in the boarding house summed up living in the Stuartholme Boarding Community as:
In our Boarding community we must try and reach out to each other. Being away from home we do not have the support of our families, so we rely on each other for care and friendship. For our time here we are each other’s family.
TERTIARY PATHWAYS
Entry to the majority of courses at tertiary institutions in Queensland requires specific subjects to have been studied for four (4) semesters, as well as attainment of an Overall Position (OP) and reports in relevant Field Positions (or FFPs). Most tertiary institutions require four semesters of QSA English to a sound Achievement standard, although there are some exceptions.
Students who are not eligible to receive an OP may still apply for tertiary courses. They are awarded a rank on a scale, 1-99, and this rank depends on the student’s performance in all subjects studied and on performance in the QCS Test.
